What is DEXA

DEXA is an advanced technology originally used to assess bone health. In recent years it has become recognised as the preferred method for body composition assessment.

Previously restricted to universities, Physique Science now brings DEXA technology to those who take their health, fitness and performance seriously.

Physique Science’s Dr Gary Slater has co-authored some of the definitive scientific journal articles about DEXA. Starting during his tenure at the Australian Institute of Sport, Dr Slater has studied and supervised PhD and Masters students focusing their research on the use of DEXA. Those research learnings direct the day to day operation of services at Physique Science. We truly are the experts in the use of DEXA to monitor body composition

DEXA:

  • Provides detailed reports on whole body composition as well as regional composition including arms, legs and trunk, something no other technology can provide.
  • DEXA can identify changes in body fat and muscle mass of as little as 200-300g. This is much more accurate than underwater weighing, Bodpod, bioelectrical impedance and skinfold (calipers) measurements where errors in excess of 1-2kg can be common
